BOOK SYNOPSIS

Every time she closes her eyes, he’s there…waiting for her.
Working night shift at a mental hospital was never Brandi Connelly’s dream job, but in order to pay her grandmother’s medical bills she’s willing to do whatever she has to. Her new job seems like a piece of cake, there is only one thing keeping her from enjoying it – Draken Barrand, a patient.
Thoughts of her patient haunt her night and day and she’s too embarrassed to tell anyone about the strange dreams she’s having about him. Partly because she’s afraid they will think she’s crazy…mostly because the things that go on while she’s sleeping make her blush.
As the nightly visions become all too real she’s afraid they’re not dreams at all. If these nightly fantasies are real, that means everything her dream lover has told her is real, which means that the little mating ritual she so excitedly participated in was real. Soon she will change into a demon and there’s nothing she can do about it.
Claimed and marked, she now belongs to a creature of the night. There’s just one upside to this – he’s trapped behind the walls of a mental institution. That means she has time to figure out a way to stop the change… well, she would’ve had time, if her mate hadn’t broken out of his cell.
He’s tired of being alone.
Draken Barrand is determined to claim his mate. There’s just one problem - he’s unlawfully trapped behind the walls of a mental institution. The only way he can reach her is through her dreams, where he claims her and marks her as his own. But his mate’s life is threatened when the Leader of his Legion finds out about his unlawful mating.
Will Draken be able to break free of his cell in time to save his woman? If he does, will she finally accept him as the man of her dreams and her reality?

EXCERPT

Though his demon couldn’t fully emerge, Draken still pulled back and stared down at his woman. She blinked up at him. The lust she felt showed in her expression. He wanted to satisfy her, wanted to slate her lust then tease her body until it returned.
“Why did you stop? I didn’t want you to stop.”
Both man and beast growled with pleasure. She didn’t want him to stop. Her confession made his confidence soar. It was a miracle he hadn’t scared her away with his inexperience. If he did it right, maybe she wouldn’t notice that this was his first time.
Taking a deep breath, he silently begged his beast to be patient. There was something he wanted to do to her, something he’d dreamed of doing since he first smelled her scent. He would do it now, before he lost the nerve.
“Lie down on the pillows,” he told her. “I want to taste the rest of you.”

CHARACTER BIOS

Draken Barrand: Trapped in a mental institution, Draken has never experienced the outside world. There's been no first kiss for him, no first job, no first crush. The poor demon hasn't even tasted chocolate before. All of that changes when he meets Brandi. With new sensations coursing through his body, he's determined to claim her. First, he has to break out of the psych ward. Second, he has to learn to calm his inner beast. Both man and beast want a taste of Brandi. They refuse to let an annoying thing like cell bars and demonic rules keep them away from her.
Brandi Connelly: Curvy with a hint of sass, Brandi has spent most of her life hiding in the shadows. Picked on as a kid because she was a little heavier than the popular girls, Brandi believed she would never meet a man who would appreciate her, curves and all. To her surprise, she finds that and more in Draken Barrand. Too bad he's a patient in the psych ward. Oh yeah, and he's a demon. Go figure. Did I mention she's his mate?
Josphe Barrand: He's the Leader of the Legion. He doesn't have time for love, friends or even family. The only thing on his mind is getting the job done. He's willing to kill to make sure he achieves his goal. The only thing in his way is his cousin Draken and Draken's new mate. But they won't be in his way for long. Killing them will be easy. Or so he thinks...

Trailer

Prologue

It’s days like today I wish I was dead.

“Lily Anderson, you get your ugly ass out here right this minute. Don’t make me come after you,” Daddy screams.

He’s so angry. I knew the moment I heard him come home from work I was in for it. I was in my bedroom, lying on the floor trying to do my math. He slammed the front door so hard the windows in my room shook.

And then I knew, I knew I was in for it.

“Lily Anderson!” he yells again.

As soon as I heard him yell I ran to my hiding spot. I’m inside the closet in the hallway, wedged as far into the corner as I can get. Mom’s old coat hangs in front of me and I can still smell a faint waft of the perfume she used to wear.

“Lily Anderson!” he shouts. I can hear the anger in his voice and I can already feel the pain he’s going to inflict on me when he opens the closet door. I know what’s coming.

I close my eyes tight, scrunching them up so no light can seep through. I put my hands over my ears so I can’t hear him.

“I swear to God; if I have to find you, you will not sit for a month.”

My knees are folded into my chest. I’m trying to make myself small, invisible, so he forgets I’m here. I’m rocking myself, trying to block out what he’s saying.

School is safe. School is safe. School is safe. I keep repeating the mantra because in a few short hours I’ll be back at school. Maybe tomorrow I can go to the library after school, stay there until it closes and then sneak in after Dad’s passed out, because he’s had too much to drink.

It was never like this before. Ever.

I’m twelve years old and I can remember when Mom, Dad, and I were all happy. But that was years ago. It’s been a long time since there’s been any happiness in this house.

Well, before Mom died anyway, and not a day since.

Mom died when I was nine. I don’t remember much about her, except I remember her telling me how ugly I am. How life would be better if I was taken away from them. How I’ll never be anything, because I’m stupid and ugly.

Sometimes I dream happy things. Like me, Mom, Dad and a little blond-haired boy all going for a picnic. The sun beamed down on us as we played outside and laughed. We’d eat yummy sandwiches Mom made for us, and we’d drink homemade lemonade. We’d spend hours outside, laughing and talking and just having fun. Mom would tell me how pretty I am, and how much she loved me. She would play with my hair, braid it, and then we’d go and pick bright flowers to take home and put in a vase. Dad would smile and call us “his girls”, always kissing Mom and hugging me. Dad would put the little boy on his shoulders and run around the park, trying to catch the clouds.

I love those dreams, and I hold onto them; wishing they were real. But I’ve never had a mom like that, and my dad doesn’t talk much unless it’s with his fists, or to tell me how ugly and useless I am.

I feel him walking around the house. The floorboards creak and the vibrations from his footsteps come through the floor to where my bottom is. I close my eyes tighter and try and breathe as quietly as I can.

Please go away, Daddy. Please go away.

My heart is beating so fast. My hands are shaking and I’m trying really hard not to think about what’s going to happen the minute he opens the closet door.

Shhh, it’s so quiet. The only sound is my heart thrumming in my ears. Nothing else. Not a whisper, not a rattle…nothing.

Maybe Daddy’s left. Maybe he’s gone to the pub to have a few drinks. Maybe, just maybe, he’s left...forever.

I take a deep breath and just relax for a moment. My shoulders drop and I finally stop rocking.

Slowly I take my hands down from my ears, and I’m so happy because I can’t hear him yelling at me. I can’t hear him at all.

Gradually, I begin to unscrunch my eyes from the way I’ve tightly closed them. But something’s not right. There’s light coming into the closet.

I don’t even get a chance to open them fully before a rough hand reaches in, latches onto my ponytail and yanks.

“I told you it’d be worse for you if I had to find you,” Dad says, as he drags me out of the closet by my hair.

I’m desperately trying to hold onto my head so he doesn’t rip my hair out. My feet are trying to find traction on the dirty floorboards.

“Please, Daddy. Please. You’re hurting me,” I begin sobbing as I plead with him.

“Then your ugly ass should’ve come when I called you, you stupid bitch. You’re fucking worthless, you ugly idiot,” he says. But now his voice is calm as he continues to drag me toward the family room.

That’s when he’s most scary. When his voice is low and his eyes are filled with hate.

He throws me against the side of the sofa and takes a step back to look at me.

I look up and can see he’s the angriest I’ve ever seen him. “You dumb, ugly piece of shit,” he says, as he paces back and forth in front of me.

“Sorry, Daddy. Whatever I did, I’m so sorry.” I cower into myself, trying to make myself as small as possible.

“You’re just too fucking stupid, aren’t you?” he spits toward me as he brings his hand up to scratch at his chin.

“I’m sorry,” I say again. Tears are falling hot and fast down my cheeks. My head hurts from where he was pulling my hair, but I don’t dare try to rub the spot.

“You ugly fuck.” He kicks a boot into my leg.

The pain is instant and my leg feels like it’s shattered. “Please, Daddy,” I beg again, burying my face into my hands.

But ‘please’ never seems to work.

Nothing does.

I’ve just got to take the beatings, because that’s what stupid, ugly girls do.

There's something about the written word that is pure magic.

Possibly it's the fact there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering they're capable to change our lives.

How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds?

I like to think of myself as 'unique'. My stories aren't for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be 'normal'.

Normal is subjective.

I prefer to be known as a person who's never been 'bound by custom' but is 'unique by choice'.

I hope you do read and enjoy my stories.

Colonel Brandon's Widow and Willoughby

colonelbrandon

BOOK INFORMATION

TITLE – Colonel Brandon's Widow and Willoughby: a Jane Austen 'Sense and Sensibility' sequel AUTHOR – Marianna Green GENRE – Historical PUBLICATION DATE – August 2015 LENGTH (Pages/# Words) - 33,000 PUBLISHER – Self
COVER ARTIST – Period Images/ Nancy Design

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Mrs Brandon, the former Marianne Dashwood, is now a widow, and not yet twenty-five.
Her former admirer Willoughby is as unhappily married as ever, and the thought that she is free to marry again drives him to distraction. He has continued in his dissolute lifestyle, which Marianne abhors, while his wife Sophia's life has been poisoned by jealousy of Marianne.
Marianne urges him that the only possibility of happiness for Willoughby and his wife is for him to give up his empty pursuit of pleasure - but now the Colonel is gone, Marianne finds that she can no longer push aside thoughts of Willoughby easily herself; she must find some way of occupying her own empty hours.
Willoughby retains his rascally charm, which an older and wiser Marianne is determined to resist; Elinor and Edward are as astute as ever, while Sir John and Lady Middleton are as foolish. Mrs. Jennings remains determined to marry off all her associates as before, while Sophia Willoughby is even more sour as the wife of the man she wanted, and Willoughby's friends are suitably cynical rakes.
This sequel to Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility' strives to emulate some of the light ironic touch of the inimitable style of Jane Austen; it is both funny and sad, and is told as dark comedy.

EXCERPT
'The union of the Willoughby’s only resembled that of the Brandon’s in being childless. Unlike the latter couple, they had no common interests to compensate, unless an unfortunate tendency to over indulge in wine and other stimulants could count as a mutual source of diversion.
It is true that they did share in common a manner of relating to each other that involved raised voices behind slammed doors, angry silences and periods of cold civility; but this shared inclination brought them no closer together.
It could be further urged on their behalf , that in this conduct, they provided society with the diversion of much talk, and their staff with constant entertainment; - for Willoughby’s confidential valet knew all about his improper pursuits, while his wife’s lady’s maid could recount how Mrs Willoughby had cursed him for a fortune hunting libertine in full hearing of the servants, and of how savagely he had kicked shut her sitting room door before retorting that, ‘Devil take it, in his whole worthless life, he had only cared for Mrs Brandon, and he’d be damned if he pretended anything else to please a scolding…’ But the reader does not wish to hear any more of this.
Seemingly their staff lacked any discretion, and soon enough, the content of the Willoughby’s exchanges leaked out into polite society, which showed still less decorum in repeating them assiduously. Many a man had dined out for a month on his knowledge of episodes that ought to have been cloaked in decent silence, and Miss Steele was one of many maiden ladies agog for the latest outrage.'

Today I have the honor to interview the author D.D. Chant

Did you format your own book? I did! It was very hard work, but I spent a LOT of time looking up the correct way to do things and I love how it turned out. What do you think of “trailers” for books? I can’t say as I’ve watched a great many: for me the synopsis tells me if I *have* to read a book. I do have trailers for all my books and I love them, but I think that’s just because they’re mine!!! What are your ambitions for your writing career? For now I’m happy that people are reading and enjoying my stories. Would I like to see them as films? Yes!!! However, I think it’s important to be thankful for the fan base I have now. What is your favorite motivational phrase? ‘There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs!’ Did you get interviewed by local press/radio for your book launch? I did, it was great fun. I was soooo nervous but Adam and Rachel made me feel welcome and relaxed, and I ended up staying on after my interview to chat with them. It was really great! Do you have a muse? No. And I’m not very constant: my favourite character is always the one I’m currently writing about! During you do book signings and if so do you have any dates coming up soon that your fans can come see you at? I have done a few in the past, but I haven’t got any planned at the moment. How did you come up with the title? There is a theme with all of the books in the Broken City series: The first book is ‘Broken City’, the second ‘Broken Truce’, and the third ‘Broken Pride’. I wanted the titles to reflect the world that Deeta inhabits which is, in a word, broken. As the story progresses you begin to see that it’s more than just the city that’s damaged... It has been an honor interviewing you today. Thank you for having me, it was fun! Your friends at Here is what I read

EXCERPT

Suddenly he knew exactly what the next few minutes would bring. They find the first body slumped against the wall of one of the outer buildings. The young man, little more than a boy, is propped up at an awkward angle, his face frozen into an expression filled with so much fear that it was difficult to look at him. And then there was more. More bodies, more blood, more horror than Ryder can take in. He feels sick to his stomach and, for a few moments, he is a teenage boy again picking through the dead carcasses that had littered the Kelly compound. He shakes his head, trying to bring his focus back to the present. Bodies litter the streets and hang over thresholds. He blinks the sweat running into his eyes away, trying not to dwell on the death that surrounds him. He couldn’t think about the awfulness, about the fact that most of the dead were so young. They break into the square, yet by then Ryder had known what they would find. Val swears and when Ryder looks across at him it is to find that his sardonic, ever smug half-brother looks like he is going to be sick. “What the… how the hell did they do this?” Val splutters, lifting his hand to his head and looking around wildly. “How did the Lewises manage to do this? We were right here for goodness sake! How did we not know this was happening?” Ryder doesn’t answer him. He had no answers, just the sickness that rolled around his stomach. Beside him Connell turns and vomits on to the ground. Ryder isn’t surprised to see one of the hard-bitten Andak soldiers displaying such weakness. He was pretty close to joining him in heaving out the contents of his own stomach. Out of the corner of his eye he catches sight of a movement and lifts his gun warningly. Ian sits in the dust outside one of the hovels the Brownelys called homes. It takes Ryder a minute to realise that it was Ian’s house, the same one he had seen him standing in the doorway of yesterday. He moves forward, ready to offer assistance. It wasn’t until he was much closer that he became aware of the fact that Ian clutched a lifeless body in his arms.

Hi everyone, My name is DeeDee and I live in a beautiful part of Devon, England, with my family. I’ve always loved to read, and I’ve never been picky about which genre I read in. I’m just as happy curled up with a regency romance as I am with a dystopian adventure. When I first wrote Broken City I had no idea that it would turn in to a series, but Deeta’s story begged to be told. So the stand alone Broken City became a trilogy, and now I know there will be a forth book as well. I also write in other genres, I have a series of contemporary comedic short stores (The Claire series). I also have a historical romance series (The Lady Quill Chronicles), and a dystopian adventure series (The Chronicles of Discord). I really hope that you enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy writing them!

“He hurt you.” His fingers flexed on her face. “And you’re hurting me by blaming yourself. Shutting yourself away from me isn’t helping.” Asher touched the bruising around her eye, as well as the cuts that had been stitched near her eyebrow. “You’ll have scars.” “Then we’ll match. Unless that idea disgusts you.” “Why the hell would it disgust me? I have my own. What I mean is, that animal has left his mark on you forever.” “And you should know that scars only show the path we’ve walked. It doesn’t show anyone the journey I’m taking.” Asher fell silent as he appeared the mull over what she’d said. So many questions bubbled inside her, though she couldn’t bring herself to ask them just yet. This tiny moment of calm, with his hands on her was exactly what she’d longed for. “Asher? Why did you stay away?” Dropping his hands, he put some space between them and sat on the coffee table facing her. Only their knees touched. “Since I’ve met you I’ve had issues with emotions.” “I would argue that you’ve had them long before we saw each other again.” Asher nodded and carried on speaking. “I’ve had so few things in my life that mean as much as you do. Other than Ike and my father I’ve never loved anyone, and look what happened to each of those.” He gulped.

He pinned her back up against the wall, anger blazing in his eyes. The corner of his lip curled and his forehead wrinkled. “The spoiled little rich girl wants attention by trashing her room.” He yanked down his zipper. “Well, now she’s got it.” Jack was up in her face when Beverly’s hands slapped against the sheet rock, seeking purchase as he kneed open her legs. Her feet left the floor and she braced her legs around his waist when he forced his thighs underneath hers. He slammed his cock in her slit, the force making her pussy burn and spasm from the delectable shock. The muscles in Jack’s arms corded as he reached around and spread her ass cheeks as wide as they would go. Beverly’s eyes nearly rolled to the back of her head with the chafing of his jeans against her, and his denim covered skin on hers fired new pleasure receptors to life. She never considered that area an erogenous zone. Beverly had never considered a lot of things until Jack introduced them. Her eyes jarred in their sockets and her spine jolted with the furious pounding of her body against his thighs. The dry friction rubbing against her clit and Jack’s heated breath was a cocktail strong enough to push her across the finish line. His sun browned skin was reddening, pulling taut over his cheekbones. Beverly wondered if she looked as crazy as he did. She laid her head against her shoulders and dug her fingernails into his shoulders, as he wrecked her in the way she always wanted.

Full of colorful characters, romantic locales and vivid details of 1820’s life [One with the Shadows] has a delicious pace and plenty of thrills, and her vampire myths is both mannered—almost Victorian—and intriguingly offbeat. Everyone else in the room hung on her words, the men wanting something they could use to jibe him, the women hoping for something that said he would be theirs. But she couldn’t make out the story the cards told. She didn’t have any words, only an ache in her head and a feeling of... dislocation, as though she were looking at herself from far away.
Yet words came.
“You have seen blood, rivers of it, in a desert.” She blinked. The room began to swirl, the colors of the crowd melting together. “Blood you brought forth through extraordinary heroism in a cause you believed was just.” She stood. The table toppled. Surprised, she glanced down to see the cards scattering very slowly to the floor. But the crowd behind them was spinning faster. “It has left you wandering in your soul, impotent. Evil is around you even now, and may still win out.” Her voice did not seem to be her own. “Many trials are ahead. Thievery will be involved. I see a stone, an emerald. Your arrogance can still be tempered into wisdom by your trials.” She had a sensation of falling, and yet she knew she stood, looking up at him. He too stood, staring in fascinated horror. “Love can transform you.” She gazed up into those green eyes and the room receded entirely.
The green of his eyes turned into the green of a stone.
It was an emerald, as big as half her fist. It glowed in darkness. A woman’s hand with long nails held it with a pair of silver tongs. The glow of the emerald cast refracted green light on the rough stone walls and floor of a cramped room. He was there: the arrogant, beautiful one. He was naked and chained to the wall. His pale skin stood out against the dark stone on which he lay. “You are mine,” the woman said “The jewel will give you to me.” Fear shone in the man’s eyes. The woman came closer, touched the flesh of his chest with the stone. He arched and groaned. The glow brightened until it lit the cell with a blinding green light. The woman’s laughter echoed crazily back from the rock walls. And then nothing. The stone cell vanished. Kate took one breath, and collapsed.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

When the cover model who’s every man’s fantasy…
By most people standards, Ryker is considered odd. As the only child of a notorious conman, he understandably has a few trust issues. Most men are willing to overlook his parentage and strange personality since these days he’s better known as one of the hottest cover models around. Ryker knows his appearance pays the bills, but it’s also brought grief, stalkers, and one gorgeous cop into his life.
There’s one tiny problem with his new-found obsession, Grady—other than being a part of organized law enforcement—he also happens to be straight.
Meets a cop who’s unlike any other man…
Grady knows exactly what he wants in life. He has the career he’s always dreamed of, and plays the field, catching every woman he sets his sights on. That is until he meets Ryker. Something about the more-damaged-than-not cover model brings out Grady’s protective side. Ryker also does something else to Grady. He makes him burn. The last thing Grady expected was to fall for another man, but no one makes him feel the way Ryker does. He can’t get enough. Unfortunately, he’s not the only one.
Their passion will blow everyone away.
When Ryker’s ex threatens their newfound love, Grady will stop at nothing to hang onto the man he never knew he wanted, and the bond he’d die to keep.

“Wow, Cop. You’re really uncomfortable right now, aren’t you?”
He shook his head even as his lips refused to shape a lie and deny it. “After the Plethora incident, I was worried about you.”
Ryker’s stare was too knowing. It did nothing to abate Grady’s anger. “Do you make a lot of late night house calls like this one?”
“No.” Fuck. Even Grady heard the desire in his voice. What the ever-living fuck was he doing here? Ryker took a step toward him. Grady’s brain screamed for him to step back. His feet refused. In their defense, they were probably listening to his dick. It was closer after all, and hard as steel.
“What a mess you’re creating for yourself right now, Cop. You’re as straight as they come.” Obviously, Grady was experiencing some fucked up form of tongue paralysis. He couldn’t speak.
Ryker shifted even closer until barely an inch separated them. He hadn’t realized until that moment how much taller Ryker stood. Grady had to tilt his head back to hold the other man’s gaze.
“Now’s the time to chime in,” Ryker said, taunting him. The roaring need to do something, anything, rose up and overtook Grady’s brain before taking control of his body. Without his permission, Grady’s fingers gripped Ryker’s T-shirt and tugged.
Ryker didn’t obey. He didn’t budge a single inch. Instead, he held Grady’s stare as he slowly lowered his head, forcing Grady to acknowledge what was about to happen. He wanted to run away. God only knew how much he didn’t want this, except he did, and he couldn’t stop. When Ryker’s lips finally met his, Grady sucked in a deep breath. The room spun, making him realize it was the first true gulp of air he’d taken in since his knuckles brushed the wood of Ryker’s front door. With his eyes closed, his mind steadied. As Ryker’s tongue swiped Grady’s bottom lip, he forgot everything, including his inhibitions. Not who he was kissing. Grady was incapable of forgetting that detail. Ryker was too freaking amazing. The brush of lips on lips was gentle until Grady let Ryker in. His back hit the door as Ryker’s fingers dug into his jaw, holding him in place, and consuming him. There were kisses, and then there was whatever this was.
“You’ll regret me,” Ryker promised as he pulled away before attacking Grady from a different angle.
“No,” Grady said against his mouth, recognizing the truth. Maybe this wasn’t his life, but it was his moment. He’d wanted no other man before Ryker, but he did want Ryker.
Ryker’s mouth moved to Grady’s throat. “I’ll regret you.”
